There are innumerable groups organized with the purported goal of defending an American citizen's right to keep and bear arms. The questions we ask are, "How many are actually doing that?" and "How many are taking your money and not doing that?"

With few exceptions, the last thirty years has been a steady downhill slide for the American gun owner and the American gun industry. With millions of dollars going into the coffers of large organizations, such as the NRA and Gun Owners of America, we feel it is reasonable to ask "Why?"

While local gun laws can be problematic at times, it is clearly federal gun legislation that has played "Jack the Ripper" with the inalienable right to keep and bear arms. Almost every attempt to challenge federal authority in this area has failed. Again, we must ask "Why?"

At Original Intent, we believe we know why every attempt to challenge these laws has failed. It is because few people have understood what the law really says, what the law really means, and what its limits are. That is not by accident. Federal gun laws have been artfully structured to conceal their true limitations.

Original Intent's Chapter 44 Project has been named for the main piece of federal anti-gun legislation -- United States Code, Title 18, Chapter 44 -- the Federal Firearms Act. We encourage you to read what Chapter 44 really says and what it actually means. To our knowledge, this groundbreaking information has never been adjudicated by a federal court. We believe it is the key to ending the infringement of the right to keep and bear arms enjoyed by the Citizens of the states of the Union.

Preliminary indications are that national groups that purport to support your right to keep and bear arms are rejecting the idea of using the information, nor will they even disseminate the information to their members. In short, they appear to be placing a gag on the facts. Again, we have to ask "Why?"

As with all legal issues that are addressed on Original Intent, we do not expect you take our word for it. Read the treatise for yourself and decide what you believe the jurisdictional limits of Chapter 44 really are! Phase One:

Original Intent intends to identify every pro-gun organization in America. We then intend to send every such group the treatise you have read concerning Chapter 44. We will ask them to place the information on their websites in a prominent location and let their membership know of the posting. We will monitor their websites to determine if the information has been posted and if it is easily accessible to website visitors.

If the organization places the information on their site in a useful and easily located page, we will place them on a special list posted to Original Intent and we will encourage concerned Americans to support these organizations.

If the organization does not post the information, we will place the organization on another list for additional action. If an organization is attempting to place a gag on this important information, we will embark on the following campaign:

1. Encourage Americans not to join the offending organization until such time as it displays the information to its members.

2. Encourage members of the organization not to renew their memberships until such time as the organization displays the information to their members.

3. Encourage members of the organization to call, fax, and e-mail the organization, demanding that the information be posted for all to consider.

4. Encourage members of the organization to call, fax, and e-mail the organization requesting that the organization establish a legal fund for the express purpose of challenging federal jurisdiction over alleged offenses committed on the lands under the sovereignty of a state of the Union using the latest information contained in the treatise.

In light of the ongoing assault on the right to keep and bear arms, the actions we are proposing may be the last opportunity to turn the tide and get the federal government's nose out of your right to keep and bear arms. However, this action will not be successful unless concerned Americans get on-board in a big way and help us make a difference.

Phase Two:

Phase Two is much like Phase One, except we intend to target firearms manufacturers.

Original Intent intends to identify every gun manufacturer in America, as well as every overseas gun manufacturer who does business in America. We then intend to send the president or owner of every such company the treatise you have read concerning Chapter 44. We will ask them to place the information on their websites in a prominent location. We will monitor their websites to determine if the information has been posted and if it is easily accessible to website visitors.

We will also be asking the gun manufacturers, as a group, to establish a legal fund for the express purpose of challenging federal jurisdiction over alleged offenses committed on the lands under the sovereignty of a state of the Union using the latest information contained in the treatise.

Original Intent will publish a list of which manufacturers responded responsibly and which manufacturers stuck their heads deep into the sand (or elsewhere). We will encourage the American public to buy firearms made only by the manufacturers who support this program.

Phase Three:

Original Intent will utilize its media publicist to promote this program through the firearms media. By seeking exposure through these publications, we hope to put increased pressure on the advocacy groups as well as on the manufacturers. We hope that the American people will join us pursuing this important project.
